Top 10 Most Expensive Basketball Cards (2 of 10)1948 George Mikan Rookie Card $403,664. 

I have to admit, I did not know who this was when I first saw this card. Mikan is considered to be the Babe Ruth of basketball by many. He was voted the most influential player of the first half of the century. With a PSA 10 rating it’s no surprise this card has such a high price attached to it even if many of us don’t know who he is.

Everyone’s heart of Pistol Pete.  He was one of the greatest shooters to ever play the game.  Obviously this card would be a highly demanded card.  Approximately 1600 Pistol Pete cards have been submitted to PSA and this is the only is only PSA 10 graded card their is.

 

 


Top 10 Most Expensive Basketball Cards (4 of 10)1980 Topps Larry Bird and Magic Johnson rookie card $120,520

This card sold for an astounding $125,000 just a few months ago by PWC.  This card is a legendary collectible card because not only does it have Magic Johnson and Larry Bird on it, you have Julius Erving! Oh and it happens to be Bird and Magic’s rookie card as well.  Throw in a PSA 10 grade and this card will set you back 100 grand.

Love him or hate him LeBron is definitely one of the greats of all time. This is an autographed rookie card number 29 out of 200.  It also has a BGS 10 grade.

 

 

 

Top 10 Most Expensive Basketball Cards (6 of 10)2003-04 LeBron James Upper Deck Exquisite Collection Auto $61,200

This card is an autographed patch card number 23 of 75.  There were 75 of this card made, but this is considered to be a one of one because this is card number 23 (Lebron’s jersey number). 

A lot of collectors put a premium on getting numbered cards that coincide with the jersey. 

 

 

Top 10 Most Expensive Basketball Cards (7 of 10)Wilt Chamberlain Fleer rookie card $60,655 

One of the true greats of the game.  Will put up ridiculous numbers during his career scoring 100 points in a single game.  His rebound totals were also unbelievable.  Even more unbelievable are his claims about the number of……this is a family site so lets just say he claimed to have a lot of female friends.

This card was a PSA 9 rated card.

1997-98 Michael Jordan Upper Deck Game Used Jersey Autographed $60,00

Back in the day before jersey and auto cards could be found in every box, Upper Deck released a special All Star game auto patch card of Jordan. This card was number 7 out of 23.

This is a blue refractor card with a BGS 10 grade. It’s a rare rookie card of one of the all time greats in perfect condition. These refractor cards are highly sought after by collectors.

Another one of the all-time great’s.  Better known today as Kareem Abdul Jabbar was is the all-time NBA scoring leader.

So there are nearly 300 PSA 10 graded Jordan rookie cards floating around.  Despite this high number you still see this card going for over $30,000. If there were less copies available I’m sure that this card would eclipse the price of any other basketball card. But because there are so many PSA 10’s out there its not hard to find.

Two of the greats on one card.  And it is autographed by both!
